The political party Volt has voted to eject MP Nilüfer Gündoğan , in a meeting where she was not present.
The two other MPs Laurens Dassen and Marieke Koekkoek announced their votes after the meeting, while Gündogan was reportedly sick in bed and voted via email.
Less than two weeks ago, a court had ordered that a previous attempt to expel the MP from the party after a string of allegations about her behaviour, was invalid. The judge awarded Gündoğan €5,000 in damages.
Dassen said on Tuesday however that following an article in the NRC, and another chatshow interview given by Gündoğan, it was clear there was a ‘political difference in how you deal with people…and values.’ He said that this time the party had followed its procedural statutes.
Volt has said that it has received 13 complaints about the MP’s alleged inappropriate behaviour, from unwanted sexual advances to abuse of her position, which Gündoğan has denied. The complaints are being investigated by a bureau, while Gündoğan said she has filed a police report against the party for libel.
She said in a tweet on Monday night that the party was ‘undermining’ the court verdict and that, despite her requests, an ‘independent investigation’ had not been done. She has previously said she will continue as an MP whether or not she is in Volt.
